Lose Weight Like Your Tall Friends
This is my least favorite time of year to be in stores. The seasonal aisle is currently being transitioned from Christmas to New Years, which means endless four-foot sections of “wellness products,” primarily weight loss and smoking cessation.
Yesterday, I was caught off guard by a new trend-diet book, The Petite Advantage Diet. It’s apparently a diet for women 5’4”...

seltzerlizard asked: MERRY CHRISTMAS, Sara, to you and yours!! I always enjoy your blog; it's often entertaining and thought provoking. I've probably learned some things from your blog that I didn't know. That's one of the best compliments I can give. :) Here's wishing you peace, joy, and glad tidings! Peace, Doug

What's the saddest song you know?
The one that makes you choke up every time?
I need to know.

12 Days of Holiday Horror - #10) The Good Son
Deck the halls with blood and mayhem! It’s time for another selection from my list of 12 Days of Holiday Horror.
Elijah Wood is the great unsung Hollywood hero of our generation; this kid has a massive amount of film credit under his belt that spans a variety of popular and underground genres. Obviously, he has massive nerd cred as the star of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. After that...

12 Days of Holiday Horror - #11) Frozen
If you’re like me, then the only thing you’ll be warming yourself with on Christmas is your own boiling rage. This year, I’m shelving my copies of Love Actually and It’s A Wonderful Life to instead revisit my Top 12 Holiday Horror favorites. After all, violence rates tend to peak during this time of year; it’s best to let someone else do the slaying.
I’ve...

12 Days of Holiday Horror - #12) Candyman
December is not a time of year that people typically associate with watching horror movies. The holidays are mostly reserved for cozying up with your loved ones and shamelessly rewatching Toy Story and Love Actually until your insides feel like fresh hot chocolate. Not for me, though, not this year. Thanks to a heavy helping of overeducation and underemployment, plus a career-chasing move...

"Church" For The Atheist Woman
While reading this article on wisdom gained by the age of 25ish, I found myself agreeing with every point except for #7, “Be part of a church.” I’m not a religious person and I don’t regularly engage in spiritual practice (outside of meditation), so the notion that finding God is indicative of maturity doesn’t really work for me.
When I start to think about it,...

Domestic Violence Is Not A Low-Income Issue
I just want to point out that I don’t live in a low-income, crime-heavy neighborhood. I live in a private, overpriced, secure-entry apartment community 700 ft away from a hospital.
As much as GOP politicians try to frame domestic violence as a “lower-class” issue, it’s not. Domestic violence happens everywhere to one in three women alive in this country.
As survivors...

"Cuntburgers."
Most of the time, when I post something that I’m really proud of, something that I’ve put a good couple of hours into and am comfortable sharing, it doesn’t get noticed at all.
But if I make a snarky one-word quip - BOOM. ALL THE NOTES.
